CLE Boys High School Basketball: St. Ignatius Still No. 1, Hoban & Copley Climb
St. Ignatius keeps their number one spot on Cleveland’s top 25 boys high school basketball teams list.
District tournament seeding is just two weeks away. That means the next stretch of games are crucial for teams looking to impress coaches in their districts before they vote.
The top five teams in this week’s cleveland.com boys basketball rankings remain unchanged. However, there is plenty of shuffling elsewhere, including two new teams in Elyria Catholic and Wadsworth.
Archbishop Hoban also climbed up to No. 6 after its second victory against Benedictine.
Here are this week’s rankings:
1. St. Ignatius (10-4)
Where they stand: The loss at Hoover — a potential state-ranked squad — is the only loss on the Wildcats’ schedule in 2017. Their next four games are against some of Cleveland’s best.
2. St. Vincent-St. Mary (12-4)
Where they stand: The Irish ride a six-game win streak into an extended break. They don’t play again until Feb. 7 vs. Archbishop Hoban.
3. St. Edward (11-4)
Where they stand: After a week off the Eagles impressed Saturday vs. Villa Angela-St. Joseph. Freshman Devontae Blanton, brother of St. Ed’s grad Delvon Roe, made his debut after returning from injury. That brings the Eagles’ freshman total to three. Note, Monday’s scheduled game was cancelled vs. East English Village Prep.
