Ohio State is going to sign at least 20 — and maybe as many as 22 — prospects Wednesday on National Signing Day.
The Buckeyes enter the day with the No. 2 overall recruiting class in the country, but they definitely have an argument for the best overall class, pound-for-pound. If everything goes according to plan, this class will have the best average individual prospect rating in the history of modern day recruiting.
1. Five-star OL Josh Myers of Miamisburg, Ohio:Rated the No. 2 offensive guard in the 2017 recruiting class in the 247Sports composite rankings, the 6-foot-6, 306-pounder is one of nine Ohio State early-enrollees. He’ll have a chance to compete for a starting spot as soon as this spring.
2. Five-star CB Jeffrey Okudah of Grand Prairie (Texas) South: The No. 7 overall player in the country, Okudah is the highest-rated player in Ohio State’s stacked class. Another early-enrollee, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect committed to the Buckeyes at the U.S. Army All-American Game.
3. Five-star CB Shaun Wade of Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian: Wade committed to Ohio State the day it won the national title in Dallas in January 2015. Though the elite-level cornerback flirted with Alabama and others late in the process, he reaffirmed his Ohio State pledge before enrolling early.
4. Five-star LB Baron Browning of Kennedale, Texas: Rated the No. 11 overall player in the nation, Browning considered , TCU, Alabama, Michigan and Notre Dame before ultimately settling on the Buckeyes and enrolling early. He’s the third-highest-rated player in the class.
5. Four-star RB JK Dobbins of La Grange, Texas: Dobbins, a versatile all-purpose back, is one of five players from Texas that chose Ohio State. He loved what Urban Meyer did with Ezekiel Elliott and vows to emulate it.
6. Four-star QB Tate Martell of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman: Ohio State originanly thought it was building its class around Danny Clark of Archbishop Hoban, but Martell, who plays like Texas A&M Johnny Manziel, was a better fit to be the face of the class.
7. Four-star S Isaiah Pryor of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG: The No. 7 safety in the country, Pryor gets somewhat overlooked in a class stacked with elite defensive backs. His background at IMG — and the fact that he’s an early-enrollee — makes him a player who is ready to compete at the college level.
8. Four-star CB Marcus Williamson of IMG: Williamson may have spent the end of his high school career in Florida, but he’s an Ohio prospect who once played at Columbus-area Westerville South. He was rated the No. 27 cornerback in the class.
9. Four-star ATH Brendon White of Powell (Ohio) Olentangy: The last “Luke Fickell special,” White was a Columbus-area athlete who can project at linebacker or receiver at the college level. He started practicing with Ohio State during its bowl prep for the College Football Playoff.
10. Five-star DE Chase Young of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic: Ohio State won a national championship in part because it had a menace at defensive end in Joey Bosa, so adding a game-changer like that on the defensive line is a must in any truly elite recruiting class. Young is rated the No. 8 overall player in the country, the second-highest-rated player in Ohio State’s class.
